Bottle Tree
SCIENTIFIC NAME | Brachychiton Rupestris
The Queensland Bottle Tree is a distinguishable, native tree
to Queensland, Australia. With its bottle-like shaped body as they age, the
Bottle Tree is the perfect piece to accommodate any home and garden. The Bottle
Tree is in fact only semi-deciduous, only dropping some of its leaves through
winter. Once spring hits, the canopy of the bottle tree creates a colourful
canopy as it flushes new leaves.
The main beauty of the Bottle Trees is it’s ability to
expand in its trunk to around 3-4 metres in diameter. The older the tree, the
fatter the trunk. The Bottle Tree thrives with plenty of consistent water to
encourage growth. The ‘bottle’ shaped body comes from the tree retaining water
between the trunk and inner bark.
The Bottle Tree is a drought tolerant plant and can grow in
a wide range of environments. Our bottle trees are accustomed to hot
temperatures and frost, and can be planted in the ground or in a pot with
drainage. They benefit from full sun or light shade, and light fertilisation. To
